In the hugely competitive world, brand recognition is one of the biggest advantages that a producer or network can have. Just like filmmakers are copying film plots due to lack of ideas, a lot of TV shows are also inspired by Bollywood films. Sometimes, the show ends up being a success. Other times … well, at least they tried.
Here is a list of TV serials that were inspired by Bollywood movies and turned out to be total disasters:
1- Love You Zindagi – Jab We Met
We cannot imagine any other actress than Kareena Kapoor playing Geet from Jab We Met. Well, Pavitra Punia tried to copy her in Love You Zindagi which was inspired by the movie Jab We Met. But the show was a total disaster.
2- Badho Bahu – Dum Laga Ke Haisha
Not just the story, even the poster of this serial was inspired by the movie. It showed Prince Narula carrying his overweight wife Rytasha on his shoulders.
3- Dil Se Dil Tak – Chori Chori Chupke Chupke
Just like the movie, Sidharth Shukla, Rashami Desai, and Jasmine Bhasin starrer Dil Se Dil Tak was based on surrogacy. But sadly, both the movie and the serial got the concept of surrogacy wrong.
4- Do Hanson Ka Joda – Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi
Though the makers denied that the serial was not inspired by the movie, Shaleen Bhanot’s character and looks bore striking similarities to Shah Rukh Khan’s character in Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi. By seeing the poster, one can easily say that the serial was inspired by the movie.
5- Naagin 3 – Jaani Dushman: Ek Anokhi Kahani
Karishma Tanna and Rajat Tokas starrer Naagin 3 had a similar premise as of Jaani Dushman of a naagin taking revenge. But it was as bad as the film.
6- Pardes Mein Hai Mera Dil – Pardes
Drashti Dhami and Arjun Bijlani starrer Pardes Mein Hai Mera Dil had a similar story to that of the SRK and Mahima Chaudhary starrer Pardes. The serial was shot in picturesque locations of Vienna and Innsbruck, yet it failed to charm the audience.
7- Peshwa Bajirao – Bajirao Mastani
The historical show revolved around the journey of the young Peshwa and his skills as a warrior. Post the leap, the show slowly changed track to focus on his love story with Mastani.
8- Jaana Na Dil Se Door – Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam
Even this classic movie was not spared by makers. The show starring Vikram Singh Chauhan, Shivani Surve, and Shashank Vyas had everything it takes to ruin a SLB creation.
9- Jodha Akbar – Jodhaa Akbar
This period drama was inspired by the movie of the same name, which released in 2008 and was a blockbuster. The show starred Rajat Tokas and Paridhi Sharma as the lead, who honestly were nowhere close to Hrithik Roshan and Aishwarya Rai.
10- Naamkaran – Zakhm
“The show takes off from where Zakhm ended, making the viewers ask for more,” Mahesh Bhatt, the director of the film, had said. Like the movie, the show, too, revolves around a child born out of wedlock, live-in relationships and a woman fighting for her identity.
