11 Bollywood Stars Who Died After Battling With ‘Cancer’

Cancer is an unpredictable disease and it can take a downward turn suddenly. It doesn’t discriminate between the rich & the poor, or the celebrities and common man, it strikes them all. 

Read on to know the Bollywood celebs who succumbed to this disease.

1- Sujata Kumar

Actress Sujata Kumar who played the role of Sridevi’s sister in English Vinglish breathed her last on August 19, 2018 at the age of 53, after battling stage four metastatic cancer. Other Bollywood films she has worked in are- Gori Tere Pyar Mein,  Salaam-E-Ishq and Raanjhanaa. She also appeared in some TV commercials.

2- Vinod Khanna

Vinod Khanna, one of the most charismatic actors of 70s and 80s, died on 27 April, 2017 at the age of 70, after battling bladder cancer for years. He had been admitted to HN Reliance Hospital for a brief period and generally had not been keeping well for a long time.

3- Rajesh Khanna

Rajesh Khanna was referred to as the “first superstar” and the “original superstar” of Indian cinema. Through his long and shining career, he appeared in more than 168 feature films and 12 short films. In July 2011, Rajesh Khanna’s health started deteriorating as he was diagnosed with cancer. He left the world on July 18, 2012 at the age of 69.

4- Aadesh Shrivastava

Music composer Aadesh Shrivastava was fighting from cancer for a long time and finally left the world on September 5, 2015. He passed away in a coma after fighting the disease hard for over 40 days. His state had become very fragile in the last few days. 

5- Nargis Dutt

Nargis Dutt was regarded as one of the greatest actresses in the history of Hindi cinema. During a career that spanned from the 1940s to the 1960s, she appeared in numerous successfully as well as critically acclaimed films. Nargis was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and underwent treatment for the disease in New York.  However, her state became worse when she returned India. She went into a coma on May 2, 1981 and died the very next day.

6- Tom Alter

Veteran TV and film actor Tom Alter passed away at the age of 67 after battling squamous cell carcinoma (a type of skin cancer). He was battling stage four skin cancer at a Mumbai hospital.

7- Simple Kapadia

The younger sister of Dimple Kapadia, Simple Kapadia was a Bollywood actress and costume designer. Simple suffered from cancer for three years and died on November 10, 2009 at the age of 51.

8- Ashraf Ul Haq

An NSD graduate, the contribution of Ashraful Haque to Indian cinema was significant and he had been part of more than 30 Hindi films including Deewar, Paan Singh Tomar, Fukrey and Company. Haque died on February 17, 2015. He was suffering from bone marrow cancer and was going through intensive treatment since 2013.

9- Feroz Khan

Yesteryear actor Feroz Khan succumbed to a battle with lung cancer on April 27, 2009 at the age of 69. Reportedly, he was buried near his mother’s grave in Bangalore at the Hosur Road Shia Kabristan.

10- Irrfan Khan

Veteran actor Irrfan Khan (53) breathed his last on April 29, 2020. He was admitted to the Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital for a colon infection on April 28. The actor had been under treatment since he was diagnosed with Neuroendocrine Tumour in 2018. 

11- Rishi Kapoor

The classic actor Rishi Kapoor suffered from Leukemia and was first diagnosed with cancer in 2018. After which he had announced his brief break from work without disclosing the disease on Twitter. He was admitted to Sir HN Reliance Foundation Hospital on April 29, 2020 and breathed his last on April 30, 2020.
