15 Actors Who were Popular in Regional Movies but Failed to Settle themselves in Bollywood

Industry crossovers have always been a topic of interest among movie lovers. When an established actor tries to expand his territory to another industry, it is definitely a challenge.

The first and foremost challenge is the language. Dubbing may work to an extent, but in the long run, it just drains out. Then comes the audience.

What turns out as an amble and subtle performance for South Indian audience may be over-dramatic and boring for the North. So it just takes more than just being a good actor to achieve this feat.

Several regional actors have tried their luck in Bollywood. Though some did impress the audience, they couldn’t just make it in the long run.

Here is the list of 15 regional actors who couldn’t make it in Bollywood.

Shriya Saran

Tujhe Meri Kasam in 2003 was her debut Bollywood film, and her part in Drishyam even won her accolades but yet she failed to win Bollywood over!

Prithviraj Sukumaran

The super star of Malayalam cinema, tried his hand in Bollywwod with films like Aiyyaa and Aurangzeb but with no luck!

Venkatesh

The hit Telugu actor who won accolades from playing a simple village boy in the Bollywood film Anari opposite Karshima Kapoor, eventually failed to shine in Bollywood like Taqdeerwala and concentrated on Telugu films instead.

Sudeep

The Kanada star did a great job in the film Makkhi. He debuted in Bollywood with the films like ‘Phoonnk’ and ‘Rann’ which was a complete debacle in box office. 

Arvind Swamy

The South star appeared in films like Bombay which was a flop at the box-office.

Tamannah Bhatia

The Bahubali actress had actually made a debut in Bollywood in 2005 with Chand Sa Roshan Cehra, but failed. She made it big in south but even her second innings in Bollywood also did not lead to great success.

Gippy Grewal

The actor appeared in Bollywood films like Second Hand Husband and Lucknow Central both of which flopped at the box-office.

Shruti Haasan

Daughter of famous south star Kamal Hassan, Shruti Hassan has done a fare share of Hindi movies but all of them failed to make her a star.

Trisha Krishnan

She was already superstar when she came to Bollywood with Akshay Kumar fim ‘Khatta Meetha’ where her star power didn’t make the film in top business in box office. She is also getting less offers down south because of new faces in Tollywood.

Chiranjeevi

The Tollywood superstar, failed to make it big in Bollywood with films like Aaj Ka Goonda Raj, The Gentleman, and Pratibandh.

Nagarjuna

He appeared in films like Mr. Bechara and Criminal which flopped at the box-office.

Padmapriya Janakiraman

She appeared in Chef alongside Saif Ali Khan which tanked at the box-office.

Ram Charan Teja

This Zanjeer remake was a total debacle in box office, nothing helped the film to regain the same magic it did with Amitabh Bachchan.

Suriya

He made his Bollywood debut with ‘Rakt charitra’ a Ram Gopal film where he didn’t got any recognition as he is getting in his hometown. He have a massive fan followers down south where he is recognized as south superstar.

Vikram

Vikram is known for his choice of films and doing amazing act paying double-triple role. This hottest hunk don’t shy away from doing a drag act or any female character. But his Bollywood debut was not that much impact created and he realized that Bollywood is not his thing.
