15 Epic Bollywood Movies that Made us Die Hard Laugh with No Cheap Humor

At the end of a long day, there’s nothing better than a good laugh. (Okay, there are better things, but the goal is to keep this rated PG.) Experts note many benefits of what they call humor therapy, including “stimulating many organs,” so maybe in any event laughter is good medicine.

The trouble comes in choosing a film both you and your significant other won’t find repulsive or unexciting. But movies that seem funny often end up being too crude and full of inappropriate language and themes it seems difficult.

So, here are top 15 clean comedy movies for a good laugh.

1- Chupke Chupke

Dharmendra and Amitabh Bachchan together in a single film after Sholay, so it had to be epic! The love triangle, clashes, situational humour, and most of all, the character acting done by Om Prakash made this film absolutely hilarious.

2- Golmaal (The original one)

Raved by the critics and audiences alike, Gol Mal is considered as one of the best comedy films ever made in Bollywood. A job hunt, a fake moustache, a hockey match… confusion was never so funny. Utpal Dutt’s cacophonous laughter and shrieks are still a legend.

3- Padosan

The epic song battles between Mahmood and Sunil Dutt – they did it before song battles became cool! And made us laugh at the same time. This is one film we can watch any number of times, and still not get bored of it.

4- Chachi 420

A messy plot where a father-in-law falls in love with his son-in-law disguised as a lady… this is one wicked ride. It may have been heavily inspired by Robin Williams’ Mrs Doubfire, but Kamal Hassan brought his best to this extremely loveable comedy.

5- Andaaz Apna Apna

While the film fared averagely when it hit the screens, it currently holds the reputation of being a cult classic. The dialogue of this movie has been quoted, re-quoted and inducted into modern conversation and culture. That’s the greatness of this quirky comedy.

6- Hungama

Hungama without a doubt is one of the clean and best comedy films of Bollywood. This is a must-watch if you wish to enjoy a laughter-filled evening with your family. Filmed by Priyadarshan, this one should rank high on your watch list.

7- Hera Pheri

Three broke friends, a lot of debt, a wrong-number, and the consequent kidnapping that ensues – Hera Pheri is a laughter riot and has some really good acting by the lead trio. Throw in a side plot involving a wrong phone call and a kidnapping and you know you are hurtling towards a typical Priyadarshan climax full of confusion and deception.

8- Munnabhai MBBS

Endearing as a character, and hilarious as a plot – Munna bhai became a cult figure among all the ‘bhais’ of Mumbai. There were many aping his style and sense of humour, and the film itself became a thumping success!

9- Malaamal Weekly

Priyadarshan directed Malamaal Weekly in 2006, and the movie was well-appreciated and received positive reviews by the audience for comedy. Although, there were multiple actors Paresh Rawal and Om Puri played the lead roles in the movie.

10- Jaane Bhi Do Yaaron

A dark satire which comments on everything wrong with the country, Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro is surely up there with all the classics when it comes to a good, clean, and epic comedy! The climax featuring a corny stage recreation of  Mahabharata is possibly the most funny scene in Hindi film history.

11- Amar Akbar Anthony

One of the biggest blockbusters of Bollywood which contained many memorable dialogues. It became the gold standard in masala movies in Bollywood.

12- Bheja Fry

Starring the very talented Vinay Pathak, Rajat Kapoor and Ranvir Shorey the film is one of the most loved comedy films. The film has immensely funny content and equally great performances by the actors. While the film opened to below-average collections, word-of-mouth praise made the film gain a considerable amount at the box office.

13- Hum Hain Raahi Pyaar Ke

Juhi was in her signature bubbly skin for the movie and charmed every adult and kid who watched the movie alike. Loved the chemistry between Aamir and Juhi.

14- Chasme Buddoor

Roommates fall for the same girl – two lose, one wins her heart. All that goes on between the other two trying to split them up and a happy ending is lapped with oodles of laughter. Chashme Buddoor was the perfect college people comedy deeply relevant to the early 80s.

15- Khosla Ka Ghosla

Not the kind of film which would make you roll on the floor laughing, but more of a film with subtle chuckles and secret giggles. Khosla ka Ghosla is about the struggle of a middle-aged man to get the plot of land he has rightfully paid for, from the clutches of property dealers and corruption. This film should be on your to-watch agenda if you enjoy clean and classy comedies.

So, which out of these are your favourite comedies?
