9 Bollywood Stars Who Faced Taunt of Racism in Bollywood Industry

It’s been decades and centuries now, when Britishers used to rule India with all the racism and brutal differences . But one of the discretion they left forever is the colour of the skin . Till date we call them ‘gora‘ and they call us ‘brown”.

But this racism is not restricted to them only , it’s been witnessed in Bollywood industry too , where many celebs who are working great in their career today, revealed about their past experiences.

Today , we have brought to you the list of some actors who shared their personal experiences of being discriminated.

1. Nawazuddin Siddiqui

Once casting director Sanjay Chouhan made a statement with regard to Nawazuddin’s looks that simply highlighted Bollywood’s obsession with fair skin.

Nawazuddin Siddiqui was clearly not happy with these remarks and it was made evident with his tweet.

After this incidence Nawaz had to suffer again with the blunt wordings of actor Rishi kapoor . Now , we all know how rude Actor Rishi Kapoor can be because he is in talks every now and then but being a senior actor , it was not expected by him at-least. Kapoor called Siddiqui, an average actor who is not capable of doing romantic films because he doesn’t have the image and the talent too.

2. Bipasha Basu

It was during the film ‘Ajnabee’ , when Bipasha and Kareena had a cat fight and Kareena commented on the dusky looks of Basu . According to reports, Kareena Kapoor allegedly called Bipasha Basu a ‘kaali billi’ .Although , it remained a silent war and Bipasha never talked about it openly.

3. Manoj Bajpai

One of the versatile actor Manoj Bajpai has tried his hands in various categories of Hindi cinema . He has been appreciated most of the times for his superb acting skills . One such fine performance by Bajpai was in his critically acclaimed 2001-film ‘Zubeidaa‘. His character of a prince in the movie was the vision of veteran director Shyam Benegal. But one of the critic commented on the looks of Baajpai that he does not seem to be a prince in the movie.

4. Frieda Pinto

Everyone knows this dusky beauty since her film ‘Slumdog Millionaire‘. When Frieda Pinto used to do modelling ,she has witnessed those characters who used to comment on her complexion .She has in fact time accused Bollywood of being fascinated with white-skinned actors and has openly expressed her disgust about the auditioning process for films in India.

5. Dhanush

One of the popular actor , also known as Kolaveri D boy , Dhanush is from South Indian industry. He did movie ‘Raanjhnaa’ in Bollywood ,His portrayal of a Banarasi roadside romeo in the movie was one of the most appreciable performances of the year. But he also witnessed the racial fixations and questioned director Anand L. Rai’s choice till the very end.

6. Smita Patil

Actor Smita Patil also suffered the racism and that too at a great level. Director Mahesh Bhatt revealed that Smita was always happy about the personality she had. . He worked with Smita Patil in Arth, says, “Smita was never apologetic about her looks. She refused to conform to the prescribed maxims of the film industry. Culturally, the word ‘kali’ or ‘kala’ was used to demean someone. Our minds are coloured by the racism that was practised by the British during their rule in India, and it takes years to unshackle oneself from this slave mentality. We may have won political freedom, but socially, we are still slaves to such a backward mindset.”

7. Usha Jadhav

Bhootnath Returns actress Usha Jadhav, who has even won a National Award, also faced problems due to her skin tone and became a victim to the prejudice.

8. Dipannita Sharma

Former supermodel and Bollywood actress Dipannita Sharma confessed that foreign models are always on the upper hand for modelling industry as they are in budget and most importantly fair in looks. Indian designers keep them as priority and and they say it openly.

9. Nandita Das

Nandita Das , with those sharp features and great acting skills also feels the same as she has also witnessed the racial discrimination . She has also fought against the prejudices prevalent in Bollywood. Taking a firm stand over the racist facet of Bollywood, the actress supports the ‘Dark is beautiful’ campaign that fights the obsession with fair skin.
