Stardom and awards always go parallel with each other in Bollywood. However, some actors can win the hearts of millions of audience but failed to get an award.
But have you ever wondered how some of the industry’s most prominent names never bagged a Best Actor Award, even though we simply loved them in so many films? At times, it is just about the luck, you know?
Ahead of the 65th Amazon Filmfare Awards, we bring you 9 big names who have never got a trophy for the best actor/actress in their acting career.
Govinda a.k.a Chi Chi, who made his acting career debut in the film Ilzaam in the year 1986, devoted his life to serving the audiences. However, he has never scored the award for the best actor even after being nominated 12 times for the same.
Bollywood’s evergreen actor Dharmendra has dedicated a very long time of his life to entertain the masses and given the audiences with a lot of hits. Even though many of his movies were nominations at the Filmfare Awards, Dharmendra has never brought home a single award. It was only in the year 1997, Dharmendra finally took the stage of Filmfare awards ceremony to receive his lifetime achievement award.
With Akshay Kumar, awards are always a trick. It took him all these years and a Rustom to finally get his hands on the most prestigious National Awards. Even for Filmfare, he has been nominated as many as 12 times. Out of them, 5 were in the Best Actor category. But he never won. The only two Filmfare Awards in his kitty are that in the Best Villain category for Ajnabee and Best Comedian for Garam Masala.
John Abraham has had a couple of good films in his baggy – but have they been good enough to win him a Filmfare?
Veteran actor Anil Kapoor’s daughter Sonam Kapoor is hands down B-town’s fashionista. With the back-to-back success of films Bhaag Milkha Bhaag and Raanjhanaa, the actress has proved herself as one of the most recognisable faces of Bollywood. Neerja, arguably Sonam Kapoor’s strongest film so far, brought her her only Filmfare award so far. While she won the award in Best Actress (Critics) category, she had to let go of the Best Actress award. Sonam has a total of five Filmfare nominations in her kitty.
Katrina, one of the biggest names of B-town, has also never had a chance of enjoying the award-winning moment. Looks like her Filmfare luck isn’t working out. Katrina Kaif was nominated twice, for New York and Mere Brother Ki Dulhan, in the Best Actress category. She didn’t win either.
Salman is arguably the most popular superstar in India and is definitely the strongest crowd puller. From 1990 to 2018, the total number of Filmfare nominations he has to his credit stands at 17. He bagged his first Filmfare Award with his debut film Maine Pyar Kiya in the Best Male Debut category. The next one came for Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, in Best Supporting Actor. But sigh, not a single one in the Best Actor category. Many actually thought he deserved one for Sultan.
Similarly, Ajay Devgn also picked the Best Male Debut award for his debut film Phool Aur Kante in 1991. Out of total 14 nominations, he has won four Filmfare awards, but none for being the Best Actor. However, for The Legend of Bhagat Singh, Ajay took home the award for being the Best Actor (Critics).
Though she has never worked with leading three Khans of Bollywood in a full-fledged role, she created a niche of her own in the industry solely due to her talent. Major of her films have not earned big figures at box office except a few. But majority of her films have met with critics’ appreciation and elite awards also. Winner of two National awards in the best actress category and a record win of Critics’ award at Filmfare for four times, she has never won Filmfare Award for best actress!
An award always feels nice. But whether or not their films impress the juries, all of the above actors have been a part of the industry for a long time now, and have delivered a number of impeccable performances. We hope the award happens soon, but hoping for many more awesome films as well!
