Inaugurated by PM Narendra Modi in 2018, Statue of Unity is a dedication to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, the Iron Man of India. It completed after spending a whopping amount of Rs 2989 crore. Just a waste of money. At this time of crisis, when India desperately needs funds to fight against the coronavirus, expenditures like these sounds dreadful.
Everyone is doing their bit for the PM-CARES Fund. So someone apparently put up the Statue of Unity for sale on OLX, for 30,000 crore in order to raise money for fight against Coronavirus. A reddit user posted a screenshot of the same as the original listing have been taken down from OLX itself.
The description of the alleged sale read- ‘Emergency! Selling Satue of Unity because of urgent money required for the hospitals and healthcare equipments’.
This was only a joke because no individual has the authority to sell the statue. But it made us think that the government is now taking funds from the citizens in case of emergency and spends money on such things.
Here are some of the reactions to the alleged ‘sale’.
In a country like ours, where millions live on road and couldn’t even afford a decent meal, building expensive statues is a mindless decision if the money could’ve been put to better use. Government should also focus on fulfilling the basic needs of weaker section of the society.
However FIR has been lodged against the crook mind and the advertisement has been removed from the Portal.
