The 11th season of the singing reality show ‘Indian Idol’ has been a topic of discussion because of the talented bunch of contestants.
Wishing for their talents to be discovered, the ongoing Indian Idol 11 was not without inspirational stories from all walks of life. One particular story to grab everyone’s attention including that of business tycoon Anand Mahindra was that of a shoe-shiner from Bathinda and his inspirational story to make it big.
Sunny works as a shoeshiner and his mother sell balloons to earn their living.
Sharing the story of the shoe-shiner’s inspirational story which came to light during the festival of lights, Anand Mahindra, challenging viewers to remain dry-eyed tweeted,
“Diwali is the perfect day to learn about people who Rise. A friend sent me this saying he was in tears watching it. Find the whole clip on YouTube & I challenge you to remain dry-eyed. TV & social media have done us a great service. Discovering talent in the humblest locations”.

Judge Vishal Dadlani taking notice of Anand’s tweet thanked the business mogul also inviting him to be a guest on Indian Idol 11. He wrote, “So glad you noticed Sunny, @anandmahindra sir. Do watch the upcoming episodes. All our singers on #IndianIdol11 have the potential to inspire kids in every corner and every economic level in India. We’d be honoured if you visit our set & chat with the kids, whenever you like!”
Bathinda boy had left the judges amazed when he sang Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan’s ‘Afreen Afreen’. Anu Malik said that he felt as if Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan himself was performing on the stage. As Neha Kakkar praised Sunny, he broke into tears while speaking about his mother. He said, “Mujhe bilkul achcha nahi lagta ki meri mummy ghar-ghar mein chawal maangti hai.”
Vishal Dadlani said, “Mera bheja fat gaya apko sun ke. I have never heard anyone singing Nusrat sahab like that. It’s mind-blowing. Aapne gaane ka ratta bahut achcha maara hai.”
Vishal was doubtful if Sunny would be able to sing other songs so well so Neha asked him to sing another song and he sang Haal-e-Dil. Vishal was so impressed that he gave him the Golden Mike. The Golden Mike ensured Sunny a direct entry to the theatre round.
As for the diamond-in-the-rough, he has reached another milestone in the popular TV show Indian Idol by making it to the top 15 after leaving the judges and audience stunned with his power packed performance from day one. The aspiring-singer of Bathinda who goes by the stage-name Sunny also won his second ‘golden mike’ on Saturday night with his rendition of legendary singer Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan’s ‘Mera piya ghar aya’.
