Chhattisgarh School Appoints Students’ Mothers To Cook Mid-Day Meals, Fathers Supply Produce

As it is always said that if you have meal cooked by your mother ,you are having the most delicious delicacy. When we talk about the mid-day meals ,eventually it got the worst scenarios where the providers were the culprits and were caught red handed .

According to the mid day meal scheme, each child needs to be served with 300 calories worth of food containing 8-12gms protein.

According to the most recent reports of Indian Express report UP school was serving chapattis and salt for a meal. Another report revealed how over 900 students have been ill in the past three years due to eating poor mid-day meals.

To abolish the situations like this and to ensure that school kids get good quality food, one school in Chhattisgarh has entrusted the responsibility of cooking mid-day meals to no one other than the mothers of the students. According to a report by The New Indian Express, a private school at Salhi, which lies 60km away from Ambikapur, has hired 12 mothers to procure, prepare, and serve the food .

The good news is that the supply for food preparation comes from those parents who are into organic farming. Those parents who are farmers supply rice, wheat, and green vegetables to the school’s kitchen. Spices are acquired from a local self-help group.

The dishes for breakfast are likewise dalia, sweet halwa, poha, or upma along with milk which is on the daily basis. On special occasions, the kids get to decide the meals!

The female sarpanch of Salhi quoted , “Since all produces and outputs are from the parents of students, the purity and the quality remain guaranteed. The mothers are preparing foods from ingredients, vegetables and ration materials procured locally.”

This idea has made women of the area stronger and moreover more admissions have been in process.
