The actress got the negative reaction as a trend started by netizens #BoyoycottChhapaak trend on Twitter. The film’s IMDb rating also dipped, and Twitter suspected it was a deliberate attack.
Director Meghna Gulzar and producer Deepika , seen in a new video that has surfaced online, Deepika Padukone is seen responding to the dip in Chhapaak’s IMDb rating. The actress was speaking during a radio programme with director Meghna Gulzar. She gracefully answered the question on the change in the IMDb rating of the film, and said, “Unhone meri rating badli hai, mera mann nahi (sic).”

An online campaign against Deepika’s Chhapaak was initiated when Deepika visited JNU ahead of the release of her film. #BoycottChhapaak started trending on Twitter with many users asking people to not watch the film, alleging that Deepika Padukone is an ‘Anti-national’ and supports people who want India to perish. Consequently, Chhapaak’s IMDb rating also fell to just 4.6, while Ajay Devgn’s Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior stands at 8.7. Out of the 18,737 voters so far, almost 10,500 voters have given it the lowest rating of 1 and almost 5,800 have rated it 10.
This led to a Twitter war where many supported Chhapaak and said that this is the result of a deliberate ploy to attack the film. Many suggested that this was an extension of the #BoycottChhapaak trend.
