Being a celebrity comes with A LOT of perks. You never wait in lines. You never need a reservation. You’re treated to an endless life of lavish parties, and you pretty much get everything in life for free despite already being wealthy. Sounds great, doesn’t it?
As if being nominated for an Academy Award isn’t a gift in and of itself, every year all of the Oscar nominees in the acting and directing categories are gifted with goodie bags full of high-end products by marketing company Distinctive Assets.
Each year, the “Everyone Wins” Nominee Gift Bags are produced by Distinctive Assets and delivered to all of the Oscar nominees during the week leading up to the show.
While the swag in the bags tends to be far and away out of the price range of most of us ordinary mortals, you would think that anyone who had a hand in making a potentially award-winning movie could probably afford to buy most of the goodies themselves. Still, it’s free advertising for the companies supplying the freebies.
Even if the Oscar nominees didn’t take home a golden statuette on Sunday night, they still won big – each shortlisted actor and director was given a goodie bag worth more than a staggering $225,000.
Yes, you read that right. It’s full of countless items and experiences that we’re seriously jealous celebs will receive, but we highlighted some of the best (and most extravagant) ones below.
1- Los Cabos Stay
Auberge Resort’s Los Cabos location “Esperanza” offers luxury rooms on the beach with a private pool, a butler and a chef. A stay at this resort can range between $1,200 to $6,000 per night.
2- A 12-day Cruise
Scenic Eclipse is the world’s first ultra-luxury yacht (carrying just 228 guests), and the 2020 Oscars nominees will receive a 12-day cruise for two. Onboard, they can indulge in a spa sanctuary, butler service, eight restaurants, chef-prepared picnics, and excursions. The trip is valued at $78,190.
3- Faro Cumplida stay
Faro Cumplida is the only active lighthouse in Spain, and it’s been transformed into a livable getaway for eight guests in three suites. Nominees alongwith their squad will be able to stay there. The active lighthouse is 34-meters high (112 feet) and has an infinity pool. A typical stay at this unusual, luxe spot costs around $1,700 a night.
Talk about escaping the real world. Maybe they’ll retreat here if they’re upset after their Oscars loss.
4- Smart Bra
Bra shopping made easy! Soma’s exclusive measuring bra provides your precise measurements right through your smartphone and curates a collection of Soma bras just for you.
5- Gold Gold Gold
The goodie bag contains a lot of gold too. It includes a 24-karat gold plated vape pen, 24 karat gold-leaf crystal-infused bath bombs and an 18k gold plated lariat necklace. It’s like getting high, but for rich people.
6- Cannabis-infused chocolates from Coda
In recent years, the Oscars gift bag also has made headlines for its cannabis gifts. This year, nominees can unwind with chocolate edibles by Coda Signature.
7- Forte Medical’s urine collection and analysis system Peezy Midstream
Among the odder gifts that nominees will receive this year are the Peezy Midstream, a medical urine collection system that claims to improve the accuracy of testing for infections.
This is a urine sample collection device that is meant to be used in medical offices. Why would an Oscar nominee want one of these? Your guess is as good as mine.
8- Exploding Kittens
What’s a fun family night without a good old card game?
Each nominee can channel their competitive streak, with the cat-themed extravaganza, Exploding Kittens.
9- BlissLights Sky Lite projector
This is Amazon’s No. 1 best-selling night light for a reason. The SkyLite instantly projects a field of drifting stars against a transforming blue nebula cloud. Simple button controls make it easy to cycle through light effects, adjust brightness or start/stop the rotating motion. Who’s up for a relaxing stargazing bath?
The gift is not given out to nominees on the night, but is sent to them in the week leading up to the event. After all, no one wants to forget a goodie bag with such high value. And this year’s nominees are particularly wealthy. Three of the best actress nominees made Forbes’ list of the highest-paid actresses in 2019.
The nominees who received the Oscars gift bag are required pay income tax for the monetary value of all accepted and redeemed gifts to the IRS.
