While Aniston’s recent arrival to Instagram — during which she crashed the app and broke the Guinness World Record for reaching one million followers the fastest — is enough to prove the actress’ icon status, her reign of popularity, of course, dates back to Friends.
Jennifer Aniston reflected on her incredible career as she took home the icon award at the People’s Choice Awards on Sunday night. Her frequent co-star Adam Sandler presented the 51-year-old with the gong and gushed about Aniston, when introducing her to the crowd. Following a heartwarming introduction from Adam, the 50-year-old actress took to the stage to give an endearing speech.
After Sandler’s sweet intro, Aniston uttered her gratitude, focusing on one particular TV show for serving as a catalyst for her hugely successful career.
“Thank you for this incredible honor. This town throws out a lot of awards, but the People’s Choice, this has always been special to me. As actors, we don’t do this for critics or for each other, or to make out families proud, you know? We do this for the money. No, I’m just kidding, we do it for you guys, we really do. None of us could do what we do if it was not for all of you, and you all have been so good to me.”
The actor thanked the fans for sticking by her for so many years, as she joked that people in Hollywood only ‘do it for the money’.
Aniston credited the show for ‘paving the way’ for everything she’s done since.
Finally, Jen ended her speech with a final message to her legions of loyal fans, saying, “Thank you for being on this journey with me and I just love you guys. Thank you for sticking by me!”
And we always will, Friend.
