Back in the 90s, Ramanand Sagar’s Ramayan was one mythological show on Doordarshan that no child could escape. The perfect fam-jam. Guess what? It’s been 33 years since the epic drama and the lead actors, Arun Govil, Dipika Chikalia, and Sunil Lahri who played Ram, Sita and Lakshman respectively, made a comeback on The Kapil Sharma Show!
So in case you have been wondering why a picture of the Ramayan star cast is suddenly popping up on your social media feeds, here’s the thing. The trio made an appearance together onscreen after three decades. The actors will be seen revealing many unheard stories from their time on the sets of the legendary show.

But Ramayan made a few things very difficult for Arun Govil or Lord Ram. He told TOI,
“I had started my career as a Hindi film hero and post-Ramayan, when I wanted to return to Bollywood, producers said, ‘Your image as Ram is so strong we cannot cast you as anyone else or give you a supporting role’. I took up a few TV shows, but every time I did something, people rejected me saying, ‘Arre, Ramji kya kar rahe hain (Hey! What is Lord Ram doing here).”
Ramanand Sagar’s Ramayan, which first aired between January 1987 and July 1988, was a huge hit and achieved the cult status. Later, Ramayan was re-created on the small screen by many other production houses, but they couldn’t match up with the iconic status of the original.
