The tragic demise of Sushant Singh Rajput has given way to several debates within Bollywood. One of the foremost ones being nepotism. And it won’t be wrong to say that Karan Johar has been targetted the most for promoting nepotism in B-town. The filmmaker has been subjected to immense trolling online and the public is blaming him for Sushant’s decision to end his own life.
Karan Johar seems to be deeply affected by this turn of events and has recently unfollowed several stars on Twitter, following only a total of eight people now. The immense trolling online has led him to steer clear of social media since Sushant’s death. However, as it turns out, there seems to be more to it.
In a rather unexpected turn of events, Karan Johar has apparently decided to exit the Mumbai Academy of Moving Image (MAMI) board due to the effect that online lynching has had on him. If reports are to be believed, he has already tendered his resignation from the board of the esteemed film festival. In fact, he is not giving the decision a second thought as the resignation letter has been mailed to the director Smriti Kiran.
Some reports also suggest that this decision stems from the fact that he did not receive any support from his Bollywood peers amidst the ongoing nepotism debate, which has left him upset and lost.
In addition, some reports also stated that Deepika Padukone, who is the chairperson for the MAMI film festival, tried to convince him to rethink his decision. However, the talks were futile as Karan had already made up his mind. A response from Karan is however still pending.
