Back in 2012, our social media feeds featured a middle aged man dressed in a shirt made from gold. In time we learnt that this man was Duttatrey Phuge and came to be known as the Golden Man of India. Unfortunately, in 2016 Phuge was beaten to death.
Now, a man from Pune’s Pimpri-Chinchwad area is contesting for that title and he’s doing a lot more than stitching up a golden shirt. Meet Sunny Waghchoure, who call himself the ‘Golden Guy’.
To say that he is obsessed with the yellow metal would be an understatement. On a daily basis, Sunny wear at least 2.5 to three kilograms of gold jewellery. That includes fat chains, huge rings, bracelets and more. Even his tech gadgets have gold accessories. And if that isn’t enough, he has his luxury cars even wrapped in gold.
This doesn’t mean that his cars are gold plated – they just have a gold wrap on them.
A car Sunny own is a top-of-the-line Audi Q7. This is his latest purchase. Whenever the 2013 model is taken out on the roads, it is surrounded by a convoy of vehicles so as to protect the wrapping. This SUV comes with a three litre diesel engine and gets a seven-speed automatic transmission.
One of the gold cars that the Golden Guy own is a Jaguar XF. This car is an entry-level sedan from the brand, which costs about ₹50 lakh. Besides the body, even the tires have gold alloys on them. The XF is generally available in petrol and diesel options. However, the exact variant of the Golden Guy’s car is not known.
The Golden Guy also own a Mercedes Benz E-Class, that bares his moniker on the number plate. The E-class is among the best-selling luxury cars in the country and the one he own is the 2012 version with a quad headlamp set-up. This vehicle costs close to ₹58 lakh.
Land Rover Range Vogue
He recently even bought a Land Rover Range Rover Vogue. This car is very popular among celebrities. The one the Golden Boy have bought is a previous generation L332 Land Rover Range Rover Vogue. However, this car is still to get his trademark golden wrap. This car is priced at ₹2.8 crore.
The Audi is the entry-level sedan from the German brand in the Indian market. Sunny got the new A3 when it first came to the Indian market, which is why it is a pre-facelift version. The car is yet to get a golden wrap like the other vehicles in his garage.
