Arnab Goswami’s debate show is one of the most watched debate shows on Indian television. The latest topic on the debate show was all about against China’s recent actions at the border and boycotting all Chinese products. As the debate may soothe the anti-China sentiment, but as we know Goswami’s show is probably the most ironical show.
While Goswami was debating or more specifically, shouting his opinion, amongst the flashy healdlines we saw advertisement placements by VIVO and Xiaomi, which are two of the biggest Chinese multinational companies.
The irony here was that a debate that was focused on boycotting Chinese products in India, was actually sponsored by two of the biggest Chinese corporations in the world.
This irony was spotted by Twitter user Nirmala Tai. In her tweet she highlighted two instances during the debate where the logo of VIVO popped up, and one where Xiaomi was found promoting its newly launched Mi 10. Have a look:
Soon Twitteratti called out the channel for being “hypocritical” to show advertisements that go against the main topic of the debate. Users are expressing their dissapointment and slamming the channel for accepting sponsorship deals from Chinese brands at a time when anti-China sentiment is strong in the country.
The debates about boycotting Chinese products will carry on until tensions with China subsides. Meanwhile, India needs to invest in proper raw materials and infrastructure to become independent of Chinese manufacturing.
